Cricket Tips: Self Belief and Self Confidence
In another article we touched on the issue of self confidence and self belief in cricket (you can read it here
if you missed it: Do You Have The Mind of a Winner?) We are going to look at some
simple exercises to help develop your self-belief by creating an image of excellence around yourself.
Remember no more effort is required to aim high as a cricketer, to demand lots of runs and wickets, than is
required to accept poor performances and losses.
Here are some exercises to help create an image of excellence for yourself and establish an atmosphere of
success:
-Imagine yourself successful. Always picture yourself successful. Visualise the person you desire to
become. Set aside time each day to be alone and undisturbed. Get comfortable and relax. Close your eyes and
concentrate on your desires and goals. See yourself in this new environment, capable and self-confident.
-Reflect on your past successes. Every success, be it large or small, is proof that you are capable of
achieving more success. Celebrate each success. You can recall it when you begin to lose faith in yourself.
-Set definite goals. Have a clear direction of where you want to go. Be aware when you begin to deviate
from these goals and take immediate corrective action.
-Respond positively to life. Develop a positive self-image. Your image, your reactions to life and your
decisions are completely with your control.

If you lack self-belief or a desire to win you cannot expect to perform well. All top cricketers have a few
characteristics essential for success.
1- A burning desire to succeed at all costs.
2- Faith and belief in their abilities - Self belief.
3- A set of definite goals.
4- A definite plan for achieving these goals.
5- Will power and the persistence to take the necessary action to achieve their goals.
In cricket, like many sports, a large degree of success is based on an individual's degree of self-confidence,
and their ability to transfer this confidence out on to the square where it counts.
Develop your self confidence and see your performances improve dramatically!
